Below are some of my favorite recipes- go ahead and use them if you like. For ones which are from other websites, I have included direct links to the sites.

Challah Braid

This recipe is designed for mixing the dough in a bread machine and then baking in an oven.

Ingredients:

Regular Large Ex. Large
Dough:
1 egg + enough water to equal: 3/4 cup 1 cup + 1 tbl. (2 eggs) 1 1/2 cups
bread flour 2 cups 3 1/4 cups 4 1/2 cups
salt 1 tsp 1 1/2 tsp 2 tsp
sugar 1 1/2 tbl. 2 tbl. 2 tbl.
butter 2 tbl. 3 tbl. 1/4 cup
yeast 1 tsp 1 1/2 tsp 2 tsp.
Wash:
Egg yolk, beaten 1 1 2
Water 1 tbl. 1 tbl. 2 tbl.
Topping:
Poppy seeds 1 tsp. 1 tbl. 1 1/2 tbl.

Instructions:

  1. Place dough ingredients in pot in order listed.
  2. Use dough setting.
  3. When dough is complete, remove dough from pot.
  4. Place on a lightly floured surface and punch down.
  5. Divide into thirds, making 3 10/13/16 inch ropes with tapered ends.
  6. Pinch ropes together at one end, braid together, pinching together at the other end and secure braid.
  7. Transfer to greased baking sheet; let rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
  8. Combine wash ingredients and brush onto braid.
  9. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  10. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Poppy Seed Egg Bread

Recipe designed for 2 lb bread machines

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Place all the ingredients in the pan according to the order in the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Set crust on medium and program for the Basic or Tender cycle.
  3. Press Start. (recipe not suitable for use with delay timer)
  4. When the baking cycle ends, immediately remove the bread from the pan and place it on a rack. Let cool to room temperature before slicing.

Big Dutch Babies

Ingredients:

Pan Size Butter Eggs Milk & Flour
2 - 3 qts. 1/4 cup 3 3/4 cup each
3 - 4 qts. 1/3 cup 4 1 cup each
4 - 4 1/2 qts. 1/2 cup 5 1 1/4 cups each
4 1/2 - 5 qts. 1/2 cup 6 1 1/2 cups each

Instructions:

  1. Select the recipe proportions to fit your pan.
  2. Put butter in pan and set into oven, then preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  3. Mix batter quickly while butter melts.
  4. Put eggs in blender and whirl at high speed for 1 minute.
  5. With motor running, gradually pour in milk, then slowly add flour; continue whirling for 30 seconds.
  6. Remove pan from oven and pour batter into hot melted butter.
  7. Return to oven and bake until pretty well browned- 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the pan.
  8. Dust with nutmeg if you wish and serve w/ toppings(powdered sugar and/or pancake syrup). These sizes make 3 to 6 servings.

Oven Fried Chicken

Ingredients:

  1. Mix flour, bread crumbs and spices together in medium sized paper or plastic bag.
  2. Dip chicken pieces in egg then shake two or three pieces at a time in bag.
  3. Put coated chicken skin side down in greased pan.
  4. Bake chicken at 400 for thirty minutes, then turn over, reduce heat to 350, and continue baking for another 20-30 minutes.
  5. Serve with mashed potatoes and gravy (if desired).

Sesame Chicken Breast

  1. Brush 2 lightly pounded large split chicken breasts with Oriental sesame oil and dredge in 1 cup sesame seeds seasoned with salt, pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
  2. Cook in 1/4 cup Oriental sesame oil over moderate heat until firm.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon minced garlic and deglaze pan with 2 tablespoons light soy sauce.

Note: this recipe can be easily adapted to a seafood stirfry- I like to make it with shrimp and scallops.

Pepper Lime Chicken

  1. Rinse chicken; pat dry.
  2. Place chicken pieces, skin side down, on the unheated rack of a broiler pan.
  3. Broil 4 to 5 inches from the heat about 20 minutes or till lightly browned.
  4. Meanwhile, for lime glaze, in a bowl stir together lime peel, lime juice, oil, garlic, black pepper, thyme or basil, and salt.
  5. Brush chicken with lime glaze.
  6. Turn chicken; brush with more glaze.
  7. Broil for 5 to 15 minutes more or till tender and no longer pink, brushing often with glaze during the last 5 minutes of cooking. (Note- you can stir fry instead, gradually adding the glaze while cooking)

Shrimp Scampi

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Melt butter in 9 by 13 inch baking dish by putting it in oven while preheating oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Shell and wash shrimp.
  3. Add 1 tbsp. parsley, garlic and salt in dish.
  4. Spread shrimp in single layer in dish and cook for 8 minutes.
  5. Remove dish and turn shrimp over.
  6. Add rest of parsley, lemon juice, and lemon peel.
  7. Cook for 5 more minutes or until tender and serve.

Broiled Spicy Shark

Ingredients:

  1. Place fish filets in plastic bag
  2. Add lemon juice, parsley, basic, garlic, chili sauce and soy sauce
  3. Close top of bag and refrigerate for at least one hour, but not longer than 8 hours
  4. Remove fish from bag and save marinade
  5. Place fish onrack of pre-heated broiler about 3 inches from heat and broil for 3-5 min
  6. Turn filets over, brush top with marinade and broil an additional 5-8 minutes until fish flakes or is done to taste
  7. Boil rest of marinade until it's reduced by half and pour over filets when serving

Baked Tilapia

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Coat a large cast iron pan with a nonstick butter spray.
  3. Rinse fish and pat dry; place on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Season each fillet with salt, cracked pepper, lime zest and lime juice.
  5. Add fish to the pan.
  6. Place a pat of butter on each fillet and cook in the oven for 8 to 12 minutes.

Sweet Noodle Kugel

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Cook noodles in boiling salted water for 10 minutes and drain well.
  3. Combine all remaining ingredients and mix well.
  4. Add noodles to this and pour into well greased, large rectangular pan.
  5. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Cut in squares and serve warm.

Apple Pie

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Combine and sift together
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
  3. Cut in
    • 1 cup shortening
    • 1 tbl. butter
  4. Add enough cold water to make pastry stick together using a fork to blend.
  5. Roll half of dough thin and ease into 10-inch pie plate.
  6. Trim edges.
  7. Over bottom crust sprinkle 2 tbsp. brown sugar.
  8. Pare core and slice thin 6 large baking apples
  9. Arrange apples in pie shell.
  10. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  11. Combine and sprinkle over apples
    • 2 1/2 tbsp. minute tapioca
    • 1/2 tsp. cinammon
    • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
    • 1 cup sugar
  12. Roll remaining dough for top crust.
  13. Arrange on top of pie and slash to allow escape of steam.
  14. Brush with mixture of milk and melted butter.
  15. Bake in 400 degree oven for 10 minutes then reduce to 350 degrees and bake about 45 minutes longer.
  16. When done, brush w/ butter and milk mixture again.

Chocolate Chip Mandel Bread

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix sugar, butter, and eggs well.
  3. Add vanilla, baking powder, flour, and chocolate chips. Mix well.
  4. Spread by hand on cookie sheet in three lines of dough (lengthwise).
  5. Sprinkle cinnamon on top.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Slice immediately and put back into oven to toast (5 min.).

Chocolate Brownie Dominoes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease an 8 by 8 by 2 inch baking pan with a little shortening.
  3. In a small mixer bowl beat butter or margarine with electric mixer on medium speed till softened (about 30 seconds).
  4. Add sugar and beat till fluffy.
  5. Add eggs and beat well.
  6. Add chocolate-flavored syrup and flour. Beat till well mixed.
  7. Spread the batter in the greased baking pan.
  8. Bake in the 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes or till a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool in pan on cooling rack.
  10. When cool, spread w/ Butter Frosting or canned vanilla frosting.
  11. Cut into 24 rectangular bars.
  12. To make them look like dominoes, draw a line across each bar w/ a toothpick to make 2 squares, then give dominoes dots by putting up to 6 tiny chocolate chips, point down, in each square. Makes 24 bars.

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies (Shortcakes w/ Strawberries)

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Thoroughly cream margarine and sugar.
  3. Add egg and beat well.
  4. Add vanilla and grated lemon rind.
  5. Sift the remaining ingredients together and add alternately with milk. Mix well.
  6. Roll 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured surface.
  7. Cut with floured cookie cutter. (For cookies: you can decorate if you wish). (For shortcakes: cut in the shape of circles with the top of a mug and place on the bottom of a well greased muffin pan.)
  8. Bake in 350 degree oven 6 to 8 minutes (watch to see if ready).
  9. For shortcakes: put strawberries in the shortcake cups when done and serve.

Poppy Seed Cake

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine all ingredients (a very thick batter).
  3. Pour into a well greased bundt pan.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes to 1 hour (test w/ knife blade near center). (cooking time varies)

Crimsel (kosher for passover muffins)

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Dissolve salt and sugar in boiling water; pour over matzo meal.
  3. Mix well and let stand for 5 minutes.
  4. Add melted shortening and eggs; mix well.
  5. Pour into greased muffin tin (like cupcakes) and bake for 15 to 20 minutes in 450 degree oven.
  6. Let cool somewhat and serve (tastes good hot & cold).

Passover Brownies (kosher for passover)

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease 9 by 13 inch pan.
  3. Melt chocolate chips with margarine. Cool.
  4. Beat eggs, salt, and sugar till light.
  5. Add vanilla.
  6. Add the melted chocolate and mix well.
  7. Add matzah cake flour and mix well.
  8. Bake 35 min.

Matzo Meal Pancakes (kosher for passover)

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients (matzo meal, sugar, salt) together.
  2. Add milk to dry ingredients and stir well.
  3. Gradually add the well beaten eggs to the matzo meal mixture blending gently.
  4. Drop by spoonfuls onto well oiled pan and fry until brown on both sides (flip when one side is done).
  5. Serve w/ sour cream, apple sauce, or jam.
