                        GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE
                       TUESDAY, JULY 23, 1996

Hart's Farm: Hart and Dina are engaged in extreme lip-lock while Bridget
spies from outside the window. When they come up for air, Dina wonders if
Hart cares about her or if he really prefers Bridget. (She is basing these
comments on the conversation she overheard between Hart and Bridget
yesterday at Company.)

Lewis-Reardon Living Room: Matt and Vanessa engage in a similar lip-lock.
When they come up for air Vanessa decides to check the answering machine
for messages and nearly passes out along the way.

Cedars: Annie contemplates her pills as Josh and Reva console each other
about Shane. Enter Alan on crutches. Reva attacks like a pit bull
shouting at him in true Slut-of-Springfield fashion. She wants him DEAD
and attacks to prove it until Josh pulls her off and consoles her. Enter
Philip.

Mattessa's: Vanessa's in major denial about her health problems and when
Matt asks about taking the tests she evades an answer.

Farm: Dina continues to probe for Hart's true feelings. Hart can't spit
out the L word, but he does say he wants to keep Dina safe and that he only
thinks of Bridget as a good mother to his son and a fine person. He only
said mean things about Dina to keep up the front for the judge. Musical
segue into the Dirty Deed. Bridget sobs outside the window.

Mattessa's: Much hugging and extreme facial closeups as these two mumble
sweet nothings and swap spit.

Park: Annie sits on a swing in the dark fondling her pill bottle. Enter
St. Philip, all out of breath from running in pursuit of her. She claims
she's OK, she only needed some air. He says he understands how she feels
seeing Josh and Reva together, but she denies it bothers her.

Cedars: Alan and Alex make a speedy exit. Josh and Reva argue (as only
these two can). Finally she asks why he bothers with her. Before he can
answer, Buzz comes up and asks for a hug. Reva makes a point of saying,
"Always, Buzz." Enter the press, led by Griffin, who seems to have become
an anchorman in his spare time. Josh begs Reva not to spill her guts for
the press, especially the sordid parts involving her and Alan.

Park: Philip tries to reassure Annie that Josh really does love her. To
her credit, Annie has figured out what all the viewers have known for
months--she is the second best that Josh settled for when Reva married
Buzz.

Cedars: Josh and Reva argue more. She insists on talking to reporters
("Well then do what you want--you always do anyway.") and goes off to chat
with Griffin.

Spaulding Compound: Alan, Alex and Amanda trade insults in fine form,
somewhat like hyper Chihuahuas. Exit Alex to bed; Amanda stays to grovel
at Daddy Dearest's feet until finally Alan asks her to leave so he can be
alone. She begs him to say he loves her, but he refuses to even placate
her with a lie. After he is alone, Alan makes a call to someone, asking
them to come over.

Farm: Post-coital murmuring between Hart and Dina. She says she's off to
the Cayman Islands to collect her money and waxes poetic about the islands'
romantic charms. She gets up to leaves and he helps her dress. As she
exits he exhorts her to be careful and returns to bed. Enter Bridget, full
throttle, snarling "You're such a disgusting liar!"

Park: Philip pooh-poohs Annie's fears, but she is surprisingly realistic
about Josh and the possibility of losing him. Philip insists she shouldn't
give up.

Mattessa's: Vanessa sits alone on the couch and contemplates; she seems to
be afraid. Enter Dina. At first they chat inconsequentially, each
revealing nothing of substance to the other, until Dina finally spills her
guts. She's scared and confused and in love but she's not sure he loves
her. Vanessa (in serene mother mode) purrs that it's wonderful to love
somebody.

Farm: Bridget continues her rant against Dirt. She's really angry,
shouting that this whole thing stinks. He claims he loves Dina, but she
dismisses her as an egotistical twit who thinks she's God's gift to men.
She wonders if Judge Huffman would like to know what she has seen and
heard. Hart seems incredulous at this prospect, and Bridget appears to
back down somewhat.

Mattessa's: Dina's afraid she'll make a fool of herself, but Vanessa says
not to worry. They exchange sappy dialog about taking a chance on love.

Spaulding Compound: Vivian is railing against Griffin. Alan thinks
Griffin broke it off with Vivian because of her work with Advantage
Systems. Oblivious to Alan's misunderstanding, she rags on and on until
finally Alan offers to help her.

Cedars: Reva's interview with Griffin ends. Buzz and Reva sit to wait for
the surgeon. Enter Annie who is met and hugged by Josh. Enter the
surgeon, "About your son..." Following a commercial break he reports that
despite a lacerated liver Shane will be fine. Josh and Reva hug, then
self-consciously separate to hug their respective spouses.

Mattessa's: Dina and Vanessa hug and Vanessa sets off for bed. Dina stops
her to announce that she thinks they just had their first official
Mother-Daughter chat--too bad it's not on video-tape. Vanessa says not to
worry, it's all here (pointing to her heart). After she exits, Dina
ponders Hart while sitting alone on the couch in the dark.

Farm: Hart in bed ponders Dina.

Kitchen: Bridget has arrived back home and she ponders, "Dina, Dina,
Dina...I think I'll just give Judge Huffman a call." She gets the phone
book but delays her call, wondering what she has that Dina doesn't (besides
a personality, of course). Picking up one of Peter's books she suddenly
realizes the hold she has over Hart. Freeze frame on Bridget plotting.
