I would like to dedicate this Update to my loving husband, Chris. Our cable
went out Monday morning, but he not only called the cable company to try and
correct it (some jerk hit one of the main posts), but he reconnected our tv
so I could recorded the show. Thanks, honey, you're the best!

RealFriday Update, July 5, 1996

Prologue, Scene 1
Docks outside the Spaulding Yacht
Phillip appears on the phone speaking with "Mr. Chen," thanking him for
doing business with him. He says right now would be fine, he's brother's
there right now (Huh? Did I miss something?). Phillip hangs up he cellar phone

Scene 2
The Spaulding Yacht
AM and Lucy arrive from what appears to be the Bauer BBQ. Lucy tries to
discuss Phillip. AM is still angry; and shutting Lucy out. Lucy recalls
her dream, trying to explain it to AM, but AM gets interrupted by a phone
call. Lucy freaks, and begs AM not to answer the phone (A little Nadine
rubbing of on her, huh?).

Scene 3
5th Street
Gilly is still stunned by Griffins confession of having an affair with her
mother recently. Griffin tells Gilly that his affair. Griffin wants to be
completely honest with Gilly, but offers to stop in his complete confession.

Scene 4
Hampton's Place
Holly is on the phone in the back hallway, trying to reach Vivian. Fletcher
comes in and startles her.
Meanwhile, Rick (with his hair slicked back) arrives at Hamp's with a lovely
Abigail on his arm. Ross is talking to them about the fireworks, and how to
cheer Blake up. Abby asks why, and Ross thinks it's because of Roger. Rick
and Abby go to the table and Ross goes to fetch a zoned out Blake at the bar.

Scene 5
Roger's Room at Cedars
Roger is still strapped to the bed (will someone take advantage of this
situation, please? I mean, he looks awfully yummy, with his little boo-boo
lip and all). Suddenly, a tuxedoed Roger walks in the door and introduces
himself as "Survival." Dinah walks in on Roger's conversation with himself
(the Slick looking on is giving Roger the needed and deserved ego boost) and
interrupts him by telling him not to talk to himself, people will think he's
crazy. Dinah informs Roger he said he want to be safe, so they are going to
leave him in the restraints for one more night. Roger moans "No!"

ROLL THE SWOOSHING LIGHT AND OPENING CREDITS

Act I, Scene 1
Roger's Room
Dinah tells Roger to stop struggling, he'll hurt himself (No, honey, I think
he's going to hurt you when he gets out of there). Roger doesn't believe HE
requested to be left in the restraints, and Dinah reminds him again about
his failing memory. Dinah starts the "Lay me down to Sleep" prayer, But
Roger doesn't want to hear it. Dinah blabs on about how he probably taught
it to Chrissy and would have to Hart........which sends Roger into another
fit of self-guilt. Dinah feigns self-guilt, apologizes, and leaves, wishing
Roger sweet dreams. She closes the door and turns out the lights as she
leaves.
Out in the hall way, Hart grabs her (has no one seen this man? Come on SP
Police, start show the photos on the news and stuff. You'll find him in
about two minutes! The man is just lurking around hospital hallways!),
wanting to know how Roger is. Dinah thinks Roger is on the ropes, but he's
secure for the night. Dinah and Hart go off not to waste anymore time.

Scene 2
5th Street
Gilly starts a tirade about her mother, basically blaming the whole affair
on her mother (isn't is amazing how this girl can take a two person
situation and blame it all on her mother). Gilly counts the times Vivian
lied to her. And then she realizes (in mid-Vivian rant) that Griffin lied
to her too--and she wants to know why. Griffin says he can't answer that
and that he doubts Vivian can either. Griffin apologizes for not being the
honorable man that Gilly thought he was, and Gilly demands to know who he
is, what's he's feeling. Griffin admits to loving Vivian very much, and
that all the liabilities and risks were worth it for loving her. Gilly asks
if Griffin considered the fact that Vivian was married. Griffin says he
wasn't proud of what he's done.
Gilly: "What about now, Griffin."
Griffin says the affair ended because Vivian couldn't give her a commitment.
Gilly wants to know if Griffin still loves Vivian. Griffin says that
doesn't matter, it's over. Gilly takes off Griffin's coat and goes off to
be alone. Griffin doesn't want to leave her alone on the streets (wait, I
thought that this was a "model" community?). Gilly says she'll go to the
diner. Griffin apologizes for not being the man she wanted.

Scene 3
Hamp's
Fletch is telling everyone about tomorrow's headline, with a photo of AM and
Alan in a showdown. Abby has a problem following the conversation, despite
Rick's signing. She doesn't understand how they can make light of AM and
Alan's problem; a father is suppose to love his son.
Abby: Parents and children should love one another. Not fight against each
other.
Abby's words are cutting Blake to the quick.

Scene 4
The Yacht
AM picks up the phone. Mr Chen wants some figures, and AM has to go to the
office to get them. Lucy wants to explain her dream, but AM promises to
listen when he gets back. She keeps going on about Zachary's warning of
rough seas ahead. Phillip knocks at the door, and Lucy flies to it,
thinking it's AM. Lucy informs Phillip that AM isn't there, but he says he
wants to see her.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Act II, Scene 1
Hamp's
Ross thinks Abby's concept is just that, but that it doesn't always work
that way in reality. Abby asks if we can't rely on our family, then who can
we? Rick says with Alan, it just isn't that way. Abby agrees that Alan has
done some bad things, but that he's also done some good things (outside of
setting you up with skills and a new wardrobe, name one?). Of course, Blake
sits there and applies everything Abby is saying to her own situation with
Roger and Hart (stew, Blake, stew). Ross says that where Abby comes from,
her version of what family is may be true, but it's not the case where they
are. Ross says that some people think that Blake's Father is worse than
Alan Spaulding. Abby doesn't believe and Fletcher reassures her (Gee,
thanks, Fletch). Abby doesn't care; she believes family should love one
another, take care of one another and not make war against each other.
Blake blows with self-guilt, and asks to be excused. Griffin shows at the
door, and Holly (preventing her from going off after Blake) orders Fletcher
to have Griffin join them.

Scene 2
Phillip apologizes for the time, but says he would like to talk to Lucy.
Lucy thinks Phillip is keeping tabs on them. Phillip says that he kind of
is--and asks Lucy if she's okay. Lucy wants to know why wouldn't she be
(because you're married to podAM, that's why!). Phillip is worried about
AM's reaction to them talking at the BBQ. Lucy says that they are fine.
Lucy tries to get rid of him, but Phillip makes his way in. Phillip wants
to know why AM is down on him--specifics. Lucy wants to know why Phillip
wants to know. Phillip thinks that AM feels that he is against him. Lucy
reminds him of the time AM caught him in AM's office, going through his
files. Phillip apologizes for that, and doesn't think that's it. Why would
AM just assume that Phillip was in the office trying to do something to hurt
him? Lucy asks if the talk can wait because it's late. Reluctantly,
Phillip agrees to leave. But, on his way out, Phillip calls her on why AM
didn't want him around Spaulding. Phillip claims that AM has been keeping a
big secret from the both of them, but Phillip knows what it is.

Scene 3
Roger's Room
Blake slips in with the lights off and Roger calls for Dinah. Blake says
it's her.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Act III, Scene 1
Roger's Room
Blake moves closer to Roger, as Roger confesses to Blake that he thinks he's
going crazy. Blake shows him the flag she brought him from the Bauer BBQ.
Roger: The great American Institution: The Bauer BBQ. They even held it
without Father Ed, eh?
Blake apologizes for making Roger upset, but Roger says it's hard not to be
upset when he's tied down. Blake asks the doomed question, "Have you heard
from Hart?" And Roger starts to cry, claiming not to have seen him. Blake
apologizes, soothing her father. Roger asks Blake the same question
hopefully (Oooo, stop those faces, Roger, you're breaking my heart!). Roger
remembers that Blake says she didn't. Blake wants to know where they went
wrong. Roger states his love, and that he never meant to hurt her. Roger
asks if she knew that he always loved her, that she was all that mattered
(those magic words on Blake). Roger asks her not to hate him, to give him a
chance to make things better. Blake wants to know how to help. Roger asks
her to take him out of the restraints.

Scene 2
Roger and Dinah's Penthouse Bedroom
Hart and Dinah saunter in; Dinah flops on the bed and Hart paces the room.
Dinah has no guilt over the situation, but Hart says he can't forget that
Roger may be bad, but he's still his father. Hart says seeing Roger in the
hospital bed really got to him today. Dinah reminds Hart that Roger is a
killer, not only of the body but of the soul--and that he almost did both to
the two of them. Hart reiterates that Roger is still his father (Man,
self-guilt for the Thorpe family, please!). Dinah starts to list off all
the things Roger has done to her. And starts to list off all the things
Roger has done to Hart when Hart isn't buying it. Dinah states that if
Roger really loved Hart like he said he did, he would have put the gun down
and hugged Hart. But she reminds him that Roger didn't do that, but that he
pulled the trigger because he wanted Hart dead, out of the way. Hart states
that he hates to see Roger in the hospital bed like that, he doesn't deserve
it. Dinah says that is either one of them were in Roger's place, that Roger
would not care. Hart agrees. So, they kiss.

Scene 3
5th Street
Gilly runs into an angry Marcus. Gilly wants to know what's wrong. Marcus
comments about freedom, and Gilly wants to know who he's free from. Marcus
won't spill who, but Gilly comments that she's free from someone too
tonight. Marcus guesses his father, and wants to know if Griffin fired her.
Gilly says nothing as simple as that. She tells Marcus that she got a
little more than she bargained from with the truth. Marcus says he knows.
Gilly is surprised that Marcus knew about the affair, but Marcus counters
with he knows the affair broke up as well. Gilly asks Marcus what they do
now? (Ooo--this could be a nice twist. Instead of Gilly going to bed with
her father, how about her brother!)

Scene 4
The Yacht
A perturbed Lucy wants to know what big secret. Phillip confesses that Alan
likes Phillip better than AM. Lucy is shocked that this is the big secret,
because AM has know that for years. Phillip says that they don't like to
talk about it. Lucy says no one in their family likes to talk about
anything. Phillip thinks AM's feelings of resentment and hostility are
because of Alan's devotion to Phillip. Lucy asks if Phillip wants to change
all that. Phillip asks Lucy to talk to AM about how he feels, and Lucy
agrees to, but no promises. Phillip is happy and leaves but finds AM at the
door.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Act IV, Scene 1
The Yacht
AM accuses Phillip of setting up the call to talk to Lucy alone. Phillip
tells AM what he told Lucy: that there is no fight between them. What's
wrong between them is their father's doing. AM doesn't listen. Lucy asks
AM to give Phillip a chance, that Phillip wants to work with him. AM isn't
surprised, and accuses Phillip of wanting the Presidency of Spaulding back.
Phillip excuses himself, and AM lays into Lucy about her taking Phillip's
side against him.

Scene 2
Hamp's
Rick asks Abby to dance, but Abby turns him down (Fool! Go, girl!). Rick
says he was impressed with what she said, but Abby worries that everyone is
made at her. Rick tells her that they are not, but jokes that if she
doesn't dance with him, he'll be mad at her. Abby laughs and agrees (Aw!).
Ross is asking around if anyone has seen Blake. Hamp has a note from Blake
for Ross, she was in a hurry to leave and left it for him.
Note: Gone to see Dad. Please wait here. I'll be back soon.
Ross looks none too happy.

Scene 3
5th Street
Marcus tells Gilly how he read Griffin the riot act when he found out about
the affair. Gilly doesn't think it helped, but Marcus thinks it was part of
the reason he broke off the affair. Gilly wants to know the rest of the
reason, but Marcus doesn't thinks that matters. Marcus says that Griffin
agreed with Marcus about the affair and that Griffin said he wasn't going to
go down that path again. Gilly comments that Griffin is a man of honor
after all.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Act V, Scene 1
The Yacht
Lucy defends Phillip, but AM doesn't believe Phillip's attempt at niceness.
AM thinks Phillip is after his job, and if he doesn't stop Phillip, they'll
all go down (gee, I think AM is the paranoid one, not Roger). Lucy reminds
AM of his wedding toast, how she had taught him a different life other than
the "eat or be eaten, killed or be killed" world of Spaulding. AM says Lucy
doesn't understand, and Lucy agrees with him. AM wants to talk, but Lucy
asks for some time alone and leaves.

Scene 2
Roger's Room
Roger is begging Blake to get him out of the restraints. Blake reminds him
of assaulting Frank and threatening Hart. Roger promises not to hurt anyone
again. Blake asks if he had hurt Hart before Hart disappeared.
Roger: What happened to Hart wasn't my fault.
Blake asks what happened to Hart, and that Roger can trust her. Roger says
the except for his children, his whole life has been as waste, and how much
he loved her.
Roger: But, I should have loved you better. I should have loved Hart
better. How could one father make so many mistakes?
Roger says he wants a chance to try and fix it (boy, he is pushing all of
Blake's buttons right--she is completely mesmerized by what he is saying to
her). Blake tell her father not talk, that he doesn't have to say anymore.

Scene 3
Hamp's
Rick is laughing while dancing with Abby; Abby wants to know why. Rick
comments that he can feel the music through the bottom of his feet, just
like she does. Rick says that he understands now what she meant when she
said she can listen with other parts of her body (woo-woo!). Abby slips in
that they learn a lot from each other. Rick pulls her closer as the dance.
Meanwhile, Fletcher is grilling Griffin on the whether it's truly over with
him and Vivian. Griffin says completely. Fletcher feels for him, but
Griffin comments that it freed him up for another relationship.
Unfortunately, he opted to tell the truth. Fletcher says he's there for
Griffin, and Griffin appreciates it.
In the back hallway, Holly is on the phone with Vivian's answer service, but
they don't know where she is. Holly comments that she'd be better off with
a beeper and angrily hangs up. Just as Holly comes back into the main room,
Gilly and Marcus comes in. Fletcher attempts to persuade Marcus to play
something, and Marcus agrees. Fletch also invites Gilly to join them. At
first, she turns him down, but one longing look from Griffin and she's in.
Ross congratulates Griffin and Gilly on their media blitz, and both Griffin
and Ross complement Gilly on her skills. Gilly asks Griffin to dance, and
Fletcher asks a transfixed Holly do dance as well. Holly puts him off, and
slips by the dancing Griffin and Gilly out the front door.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Epilogue, Scene 1
Hamp's
Blake comes back in, and Ross is glad to see her. Blake apologizes for
worrying him, but she had to see her father. Ross says there is something
she has to do for him, but they need to dance first.
At the bar, Phillip is telling Rick about how he thinks Lucy will open up to
him if he can only get more time with her alone. Phillip and Rick order
"Grandma Down The Shoot" from the bartender (I love these boys'
improvisations. They are great!).
On the dance floor, Griffin worries that he's going to loose Gilly as a
friend and employee. Gilly tells Griffin that she's not going to let what
was said tonight change her feelings for him.
Gilly: I still care for you, Griffin. I can't stop.

Scene 2
Outside the Grant house
Vivian walks up to unlock the door (Wow--you mean someone actually locked
their door in a soap! Unheard of!) when Holly assaults her. Holy informs
Vivian that Gilly is going after Griffin, and Vivian says she can't let that
happen. Holly informs her that she may be too late.

Scene 3
The Beach Outside the Lighthouse
Lucy walks in, going over the argument with AM in her head. She turns, and
finds Zachary at a fire. Zachary asks Lucy to join him, but Lucy freaks
about him being him.

Scene 4
The Penthouse
Hart can't believe that they are here like this, with Dinah lying on top of
him, nibbling on his ear (they are still dressed--isn't that amazing?).
Dinah says not to think about it. And Hart says he wants to show her, and
rolls over onto her, taking a deep kiss.
