By Patricia K. Lambert

Bauer's:
Rick is cleaning the famous Bauer grill. Michelle asks Rick if he's
going thru with it anyway despite Ed's being gone. Rick comments he is
just cleaning the messy grill. Michelle spells out that she meant the
traditiona
l 4th of July bbq. It's Rick big chance to be the man of the house and
even tamper with the Bauer burger recipe. Michelle says she's already
made plans. Rick says he
never knew he'd miss Ed so much.

Carousel at Josh & Annie's:
Marah yells to a fainted Vanessa that she and Shayne are ready for her
to come find them. The kids walk in and can't find Vanessa. Marah
reminds Shayne they are playing hide and seek. Shayne gets scared and
leaves to
go get Annie bumping into our mysterious stranger, no with a face,
before he reaches the door.

5th Street:
Everyone has joined hands, Josh and Reva too!, and are chanting to
"Save Our Streets". Alan is not amused and reminds them they are
trespassing. All of his permits are in order and his foreman is just
waiting for the wo
rd to turn 5th Street into a pile of rubble. Alan-Michael walks up and
tells his father that if he plans to blow the building up it's going to
be with him in it.

Roll Lighthouse.

5th Street:
Alan tries to stop Alan-Michael from going into the building. Alan
asks him if humiliating his sister wasn't enough, now he has to go
after his own father. Amanda tells A.M. it's too late for grand
standing, he's lost.
A.M. tells her that regulation play is over, now they are in sudden
death overtime. Amanda says they'll accomplish nothing. Griffin says
they'll accomplish a lot by just slowing them down a little bit. Alan
says nothin
g will be changed by them. Griffin says tells Big Al they won't do it
alone, they'll have help, from the media. He calls Holly and Fletcher
over to take a picture to show the world and let the world decide what
is right
. Alan tells him to go ahead and show the world that the people are on private property and one by one those buildings are going to be demolished. They can put it on the front page because he is perfectly within his leg
al rights. Holly inquires to Alan if his permits permit him to explode private citizens. Alan says they will all be gone, lost like their cause. If they wish to all become martyr's in the papers, they are welcome. Ala
n orders Amanda to call the police and have them all arrested for trespassing. A.M. tells his father he has to deal with him first.

Bauer's:
Michelle just assumed they weren't having the bbq so she went ahead and made her own plans. Besides, did Rick expect her to stand around their all day with a stupid smile on her face?
Rick yells for her to just cut it out. That as long as she is living under that roof, she will participate in all the family functions. Ed is very apparent in Rick. Rick apologizes for jumping down her throat. Rick re
members all the times he watched Ed clean the grill. They both agree he lived for the Bauer BBQ. Michelle says it's weird without Ed around. They say it's way too quiet for the day before the bbq. They reminisce about
how it was growing up. Abigail walks in and asks if they are alright. Michelle and Rick say they are talking about the bbq and how it's weird not having Ed around. She tells them that they can't NOT have the bbq.

Carousel:
Our stranger tells Shayne not to be afraid. Shayne tells him they aren't supposed to talk to strangers. He says he is a friend of the family. He asks Marah, she says she does remember him but she doesn't know from wher
e. She tells Shayne it's okay, he is a friend of the family. He says he came to help with the fair, but there isn't anyone around. Shayne says they are in charge while everyone is down on 5th Street where something is
happening. Marah tells him that Vanessa is there somewhere but they
couldn't find her. He tells him there are some milk and cookies on the
porch waiting for them that he'll find Vanessa while they go. He goes
straight
to her and takes her hand in his and she starts to wake. She asks who
he is. He gets her to sit up and she begins to tell him they were
playing hide and seek and she realizes she doesn't see the children.
He reassures
her and tells her where they are. He tells her they didn't see her
passed out that when he came in they were just starting to wonder what
had happened to their hide and seek partner. He offers to let Matt
know what hap
pened. Vanessa says no, she's fine. It's nothing. Our stranger tells
her if it's nothing then she won't mind going to the doctor for a
checkup. She says she doesn't need a doctor. He reminds her the
children could ha
ve been hurt while she was passed out. He tells her to check with Matt
and see what he says. She says no. He tells her not to run from
things that she is afraid of.

Bauer's:
Abigail says that Ed told her all about the bbq and how it was a
tradition. Abby reminds them that family traditions are very
important. Rick agrees but things change. Michelle says that Abby has
moved on with her lif
e so they have to move on with theirs too. Abby says that she changed
her hair and her clothes, but the important things, the way she thinks
and feels, have stayed the same. Rick says it's not that important.
The bbq i
s just getting together with a bunch of people whom they see all of the
time. Rick realizes he has to get to work. He tells Michelle the next
time he starts talking like Ed, she has his permission to hit him.
Michelle
is happy to oblige. Abby wants to know if the picnic isn't so
important, than why does Michelle look so sad when she talks of not
having it anymore.

5th Street:
Alan tells Frank to arrest the people who are illegally assembled on
private property. Frank reminds Alan he is off duty. Alan tells Frank
that if he is witnessing a crime in progress it's his duty to stop it
and arrest
the guilty party, or he will lose his badge. Frank wants to see his
permits. Buzz can't believe Alan is using his own son against him.
Reva doesn't think Alan can get any lower than that. Alan hands the
permits over
to Frank with everything he needs. Gilly shows up with some friends
from WSPR. Alan tells Frank all he has to do is his duty. Buzz and
Reva tell Frank to go home and put on his uniform, they'd feel more
comfortable. A
manda says no need the uniforms should be there shortly. Alan tells
Frank all he needs to do is arrest A.M., Buzz, , and everyone and put
an end to it. Alan orders Frank to do his duty. Frank reminds Alan
he, Frank, gr
ew up on 5th Street and he will not do his dirty work for him. The
uniforms show up and tell everyone to go home. Griffin and Marcus
think they should sit down and think about it before they go home.
Everyone sits down
. Buzz tells Eleni to get Frank home. Everyone starts to chant "Hell
no, we won't go". Alan orders the police to get them off of his
property. Buzz tells Alan there's room for one more. Alan says he
won't stop until
he sees Buzz in jail. The police start to break them up, one of them
grabs Dahlia, but Frank tells him he has her and takes off. Reva grabs
the handcuffs from a cop who almost fell on top of her and Josh. She
gets up a
nd walks over to the railing. Reva slaps the handcuffs on Alan as he
asks her what she's doing. "Can everyone say Swindler?" Reva asks to
the cameras.

Diner:
Frank walks in fussing about how Marcus went after a cop who was trying
to arrest Dahlia. Eleni tells Frank not to be so hard on Marcus. She
wants to see what Frank would do if someone put handcuffs on her. Lucy
walks
in looking for A.M. Frank and Eleni tell him he's down the street about
to be arrested by his father.

5th Street Sit In:
Alan tells Reva he should have just told him she wanted to be that
close to him. Reva tells Alan not to turn it into something it's not.
She was thinking he'd think twice about blowing the building to pieces
if he was o
ne of the pieces. A police woman tells Matt that Vanessa needs him
right away. Alan says he needs an officer, and Frank Achilles Cooper,
Jr says he's there at his service. Alan tells him to get the cuffs off
of him. B
uzz tells Alan they aren't his. He asks Reva, but she says she left
hers at home. Reva addresses the cameras and tells everyone in
Springfield about Alan's plans to blow up the building. Alan says that
in one year, th
at area will be thriving thanks to him. Alan says he just trying to
rebuild what was destroyed in the fire last year. He finds the officer
to whom the cuffs belong and gets them off, finally. The officer tries
to arres
t Reva for stealing his cuffs. Alan tries to get Lucy to talk to A.M.
about coming to his senses. Lucy sits down next to A.M. Alan comments
about another empty gesture. Ross tells him not so fast and hands him
a legal
 document.

Bauers:
Michelle tells Abby about how Maureen would get up before dawn to make
Bert's bbq sauce and how everyone had a job for the bbq. Her dad's job
was the burgers. She says that after awhile they stopped sending out
invitati
ons, that people just showed up like they showed up to church on Easter
Sunday. Michelle goes on to say that one day out of the year no one
argued or fussed mostly thanks to Maureen. She had a way of bringing
out the be
st in everyone. Abby says she can see how much Michelle misses her
mom. Michelle says she thinks about her a lot, but especially this
time of the year. Abby says she misses her mom and she isn't even very
far away. Mi
chelle leaves to change for the hospital.

Carousel:
Mysterious stranger brings Vanessa a glass of water. Van wants to know
how he knows her's and Matt's name. He says the kids told him. The
stranger says it's not the first time she's fainted. Van agrees but
says it isn'
t important. Matt runs to her side and, of course, our stranger
disappears. Van wonders how the police got the phone call because he
never left her side. Matt insists on taking her to the hospital.
Vanessa looks aroun
d for the stranger as they leave.

5th Street:
Ross tells Reva and Buzz he's brought the Calvary, the marines. It's
an injunction suspending Alan's demolition permit until the Springfield
Historical Society declares the building a landmark. Ross tells Alan
to skip t
o the part where it says that he has to take out the dynamite upon
reading the document or he can be prosecuted. Alan looks beaten! Reva
falls into Josh's arms. Annie sees it and runs smack dab into Philip
upon her ret
reat. Philip follows her. Griffin persuades the officers to let
Marcus go. They celebrate with a hug and Griffin tells him Dahlia went
off with Frank and Eleni. Griffin tells Marcus Dahlia's face lit up
when he jumped
the cops. Gilly runs over to sing Griffin's praises. Holly and
Fletcher tell Griffin they will be on the front page of the Journal
tomorrow morning. Marcus runs off. Griffin congratulates Gilly and
thanks her for cal
ling in WSPR. Buzz invites everyone to the soon to be recognized as a
landmark diner. Telling Amanda he never postpones JOY! A.M. tries to
make up with Lucy but she says it isn't as simple as an apology.

Cedars:
Abby tells Lillian that Rick and Michelle aren't up to the bbq.
Lillian says they have too. Abby and Lillian run off in a whisper as
Rick approaches. Matt brings in Vanessa and tells her that they aren't
leaving until s
omeone looks at her. She gives in and lets Rick look at her. Rick
says her blood pressure is okay and he expects to see her in his office
on the 5th. She agrees only because it's him. She goes out and tells
Matt they
didn't find anything and she is fine. Her expression is one of worry.

Carousel:
Annie runs in, crying, and fights with trying to decide to take some
pills. She decides to and Philip walks in and tells her he wasn't
letting her get away with it this time.
Annie asks him if there is a problem. Philip has a problem with
rejection, stems from his childhood he says. Annie apologizes, quickly
hiding the pills back in her purse. She says she was in a hurry to get
back and...c
heck on the kids. Philip says they are a little invisible. Philip
takes notice of the carousel. Annie tells Philip how Josh restored it
for their first wedding and how Marah calls it "the Land of Wishes,
Hopes, and Dream
s". Philip says that is their draw for the fair, everyone loves a
carousel. Annie asks if Philip ever thought of working in a carousel
after he pretends to be an announcer. He says in the Spaulding Family
Circus. Anni
e laughs like she hasn't laughed in a very long time. Philip says that
the victory on 5th Street was as much hers as anyone because she was
responsible for having everyone at the house for the fair so they were
able to g
et to 5th Street so quick. Philip says she should be out celebrating
with everyone else. Annie lies and says she has so much to do. Philip
says he knows why she didn't want to stay.

Diner:
Josh proposes a toast to the greatest legal mind ever, his friend and
lawyer, Ross Marlor. Everyone chimes in. Buzz proposes a toast the
gutsy female who cuffed Alan to the building filled with his own
explosives, Reva
Shayne Lewis Cooper and kisses her, but Reva can't take her eyes off of
Josh. Josh can't take his eyes off of Reva, until he asks Ross if he's
seen Annie. He heads home to look for her. Buzz toasts Griffin who
says all
the credit goes to the people of 5th Street and he salutes all of
them.

Spaulding:
Amanda comes in yelling for Netty and tells her when she comes home she
expects to see her not to have to hunt her down. Netty informs Amanda
that Alan isn't home and took the jet and left without leaving any
messages or
notes or anything for Amanda. Amanda received a registered letter
while she was out. Her face looks grim as she sees who it's from, the
I.R.S. who wants to audit her for the past 7 years.
Amanda screams.

Diner:
Frank admits to Dahlia that he's been a jerk concerning Marcus. He
says that if she wants to spend time with Marcus and he's willing to
follow some rules he'll allow it. Dahlia says she doesn't want to
spend time with M
arcus. Dahlia runs into Marcus on the way out and tells him thanks
again, but he shouldn't get the wrong idea. Frank tells Marcus this
time it was her not him. Gilly wants to talk personal with Griffin.
Buzz calls him
 offer.

Outside Diner:
Lucy tells A.M. she doesn't like the way he's treated Amanda and
Philip. A.M. says he can't change it, and he just wants to worry about
him and her. He takes her off and says there is somewhere they have to
be.

Carousel:
Philip tells Annie he saw how she was watching Reva and Josh at the
Country Club and at 5th Street and had the same reaction both times.
He goes on to say that Josh and Reva go way back and even though that
must be diffi
cult for her, she shouldn't worry. Any man who gives his wife a wedding
present like the carousel must love her very much. Josh walks in and
says how he lost her in all the excitement. Annie says she came back
to reliev
e Vanessa. Philip excuses himself and thanks Annie for the tour. Josh
says he thought maybe she was getting another one of her migraines.
She said she thought she was but suddenly feels much better. They
kiss.

Cedars:
Rick tells Vanessa to avoid stress and make sure she eats. Matt says
she will. Rick walks them out. Our stranger appears and picks up her
file, adding something. Freeze frame.
