GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE - realFriday 1/30/98

directed by Susan Strickler

Highlights:

NO DEAL: Annie meets her attorney
THINK AGAIN: Josh gives Matt some advice
YOU'RE GOING WHERE?: Hol and Rog talk about moving away
WHAT WERE YOU THINKING: Beth tries to seduce Phillip

Jailhouse Rock: Annie kisses Stanley the guard (with a look that says even
she can't believe what she's doing) then backs off and apologizes. Annie
tells Stanley that he's been nice to her and asks him to forgive her while
she reaches for his keys.

Carriage House: Holly walks out with Van as Van collapses again. Roger walks
up and he and Holly help Van to the car.

Casa Spaulding: Harley arrives and asks Nettie if Lizzie is there. Nettie
informs Harley that Lizzie is spending the night with her grandmother.
There's a pause and Harley says that Phillip is expecting her - so they can
shop for furniture. Nettie doesn't say anything so Harley heads upstairs to
find Phillip herself. Nettie tries to stall Harley, but it doesn't work.

Upstairs, Beth tells Phillip that she's suddenly burning up and takes off
her fur coat revealing slinky black undergarments. Phillip stammers and asks
what she's doing. Beth reminds him how good they used to be and challenges
that he wants her. Phillip looks stunned.

Lighthouse twirl

Beth slinks around saying that Phillip must want her and find her
attractive. Beth grabs his hands and kisses them. Phillip breaks away and
turns his back, throwing the coat at her telling her to put it back on.
Beth says the truth is that Phillip still wants her - he says the truth is
that he's with Harley. Beth gets angry and says that Phillip doesn't have to
pretend - she admits that she heard him arguing with Harley at the wedding
and doesn't blame Phillip for being angry. Phillip turns around with a
suspicious look as Beth says she doesn't care what happened with Harley
because they can finally be together and admit how they feel. Beth says they
can be together like they were always meant to be and moves close to Phillip.

Jail: Annie says it's been a long time since she felt *this way* about a
man. Stanley is flabbergasted and says it's not often that a beautiful woman
throws herself at him. Annie moves in to kiss him again and Stanley says his
superiors wouldn't understand - Annie takes her hands off the keys and says
it will just be their little secret. Annie tells Stanley how tempted she is,
and he remembers that Annie has a visitor - her attorney Ronnie Spears.
Annie says she definitely wants to talk to him - the attorney that Dinah
hired for her. Enter attractive young black woman, and Annie gives her a
*this must be a mistake* look, saying she expected a man. Ronnie says that
it's short for Veronica and tries to get started. Annie wants to know how
old Ronnie is and how many cases she's handled. Ronnie says Annie is her
third client. Annie says she needs someone much more experienced and tries
to send Ronnie away, telling her to send a senior partner. Ronnie says no
one else would take the case, telling Annie to take it or leave it. Annie
smiles snidely and says she'll leave it. Ronnie informs Annie that without
some fast action, she's in for hard jail time. Annie looks worried.

Chez Mattessa/temporary Revabend: Josh has blueprints and Matt is there.
Reva tells Josh to stop talking about hospital plans because Matt has a new
addition of his own to think of. Reva talks about what a happy time this is,
and how nervous Matt must be about the baby, and what a good father he'll
be. Josh chimes in and Matt looks increasingly uncomfortable and distracted.
Reva asks about names and Matt says they haven't picked one yet. Josh and
Reva go on about how daughters wrap their fathers around their little
fingers - Matt looks like he wants to jump out of his skin. Matt says he has
to leave and Reva tells Matt to ask Van about having a baby shower. A bell
rings and Reva excuses herself to check dinner. Josh asks Matt to stay to
help him with the hospital plans - and thinks it would be great if Matt and
Van left the dedication with their baby. Matt says Van might not even be
alive then.

Cedars ER: Van is wheeled in and Rick orders a fetal monitor. In the lobby,
Rog tells Holly that Rick will take good care of Van. Holly gives Rog a
look, then says she's glad he came along. Rog thinks Holly would have
handled it, and she says he made it easier. Rog thinks maybe it wasn't just
a coincidence that he was there when Holly needed him and she gives him
another look.

Back in the ER - Rick tells Van the baby is coming. Van is distraught and
tells Rick he has to stop the labor.

Holly tells Rog not to read too much into it; Rog was just in the right
place at the right time. Rog says he's glad he had good timing, then asks if
Holly and Fletcher had made a decision about leaving SF. Holly says no; Rog
gets a little pushy and wants to know why Fletch is in a rush to get Meg out
of town. Holly says it's no rush, and Rog says that's the not the impression
she gave him the other day. Holly says that she must have given him the
wrong impression then and wants to know what Roger is insinuating. Roger
says nothing, he was just wondering. Holly goads him, wondering if Rog
thinks Fletch wants to get out of SF because of *you and me*? Holly tells
Rog not to flatter himself and turns away. Roger says he's thinking of
leaving himself. Holly gets interested in the conversation again - you are?
where? California? permanently? Holly says she doesn't know what to say, but
she's surprised. Rog tells her about the business with Spaulding and Amanda
- Holly realizes it was Amanda's idea. Rog says there's only one thing - if
he lives in California and Holly lives in Canada they may never see each
other again. Holly realizes he's right and looks worried.

Back in the ER, Van is telling Rick to stop the labor and he says he can't.
Van says she knows he could give her drugs - Rick tells her to calm down.
Van says the baby is not ready to be born; Rick says he can't give her drugs
because of her condition. Van says stop the labor now and save the baby's life.

Casa Spaulding: Harley comes down the hall as Alan comes out of his room.
She apologizes to Alan about what happened at the wedding. Alan says he
understands and says that if Harley thinks she has any status because she's
Phillip's latest conquest that she's mistaken.

Beth takes Phillip's hands and kisses them again saying that it's ok and
that she want's him to make love to her. Phillip throws her off and tells
her to stop; Beth asks what's wrong, and Phillip is incredulous - saying
Beth really doesn't miss a trick. Beth says she knows that he and Harley
were angry at the wedding. Phillip tells Beth that he and Harley had a
misunderstanding; if Beth had stuck around long enough to eavesdrop on the
whole conversation she could have saved herself some humiliation. Phillip
can't believe Beth thought she could just walk back in after a year and get
back into his life. He tells Beth that they're not going to get back
together, now or ever.

Halftime

Jail: Annie berates her attorney. Ronnie tells Annie she doesn't understand
how much trouble she's in - there is no bail in an extradition. Annie thinks
they could cut a deal - Ronnie: "oh, I'm defending you now?" Ronnie tells
Annie that even if they cut a deal she would be looking at 5-7. Annie is
distraught at the thought of 7 months, and Ronnie tells her to try years.
Annie says she can't survive that kind of time. Ronnie says in that case
they'll have to fight extradition, but she's not sure how to do that. Annie
says she can get some people to vouch for her and Ronnie wants to know who
would do that. Annie says she would be better staying in SF as a nurse.
Ronnie asks who would be witnesses for Annie, and starts on the list of
people who hate Annie: Alan, Reva, Cassie, Josh.

Chez Mattessa: Josh is stunned - he thought that Van was in remission. Matt
says that's what Van wanted everyone to think. Matt explains what could
happen to Van and how defiant she is about keeping the baby, even if it
kills her. Josh says it sounds like the lawsuit is killing Matt.
Josh says he doesn't really understand much about Van's condition, but if
Matt is already second-guessing himself about the lawsuit, then who's to say
what's right and what's wrong. Matt asks if he should go with Van's
decision, and Josh tells him that it might be a good time to trust his
wife's judgement. Josh thinks that if Matt believed in Van in the past, then
why stop.

Cedars: Van is still very upset, and Rick is trying to get her blood
pressure down - telling her to stay calm. Van says she can't be calm because
Rick isn't listening to her. Rick tells Van a natural delivery could be
dangerous, but he could do an emergency c-section. Van says NO! Rick says he
doesn't want to take any risks with Van's life - Van says she can't risk the
baby's life and asks Rick to help her.

Roger tells Holly it would be hard to break up the family - and if he and
Holly are so far apart, they would never just bump into each other. But then
Roger thinks - maybe Holly would be getting what she always wanted: Rog out
of her life for good. Holly looks uncertain.

Rick comes out of the ER and calls Josh, wondering if Josh knows where Matt
is. Josh puts Matt on the phone and walks away. Rick explains to Matt that
the baby is coming and Matt hangs up and rushes out. Josh comes back, but
Matt is gone.

Josh puts his work away as Reva comes out announcing that dinner will be
late - the kids are staying for dinner with their friends, so Reva is going
shopping with Cassie. Reva straddles Josh on the sofa and suddenly realizes
Matt is gone. Josh blows it off saying that Matt got a call from Rick and
left after that. Josh tells Reva to buy something sexy for herself, and
Reva asks what one should wear to an extradition hearing. Josh is surprised
because he didn't think Reva was going. Reva says she has to see Annie led
away, because look at the way Annie talked to Eddie even while she was in
jail. Josh wants to know how Reva knew that and Reva admits she went to see
Annie. Josh is exasperated and Reva said she had to make sure Annie was
still in jail.

Jail: Annie assures Ronnie that plenty of people would vouch for her. Annie
thinks then comes up with Dinah, and uh...Beth Raines - who used to be a
Spaulding! Ronnie is not impressed - and tells Annie that there isn't much
to keep her from the next train to Cincinnati - unless Annie murdered
someone in SF that she didn't tell anyone about. Annie says she knows Ben
Warren - would that help - Ronnie doesn't think that would really help
either. Ronnie asks why Reva and Cassie never brought any charges against
Annie - if they had, maybe Annie could stay in SF. Annie doesn't know and
gets the idea that this is yet another problem that Reva has brought upon
her. Ronnie calls the guard to leave - Annie is somewhat apologetic as
Ronnie leaves. Annie thinks aloud that she has no faith in Ronnie, so now
it's time for plan B. She looks pained and a bit tearful - then pulls
herself together and calls for Stanley, the guard. Stanley wants to know
what she wants and Annie says she has a proposition for him.

Casa Spaulding: Harley understands why Alan is angry and Alan says she
doesn't understand anything - Harley and the Lewises made him a
laughingstock. Harley comes back that Annie did that to Alan. Alan doesn't
think that's much of an apology, but doesn't know what else he expected from
5th street trash. Alan tells Harley to get out of his house. Harley says she
will be out when she and Phillip move in together, but until then - she is
Phillip's guest and she will leave when Phillip asks her to. Harley tells
Alan not to make Phillip choose between them - because Alan would be unhappy
with the outcome. Harley says they have to at least be civil for Phillip's
sake. Alan tells Harley not to be too confident about Phillip, because Beth
is still in the picture.

Beth grabs the coat and covers herself a bit - Phillip wants to know if she
thought he was going to wait around forever. Phillip tells Beth he's moving
in with Harley and there's nothing Beth can do about it - and not only that:
he could marry Harley and have a bunch of kids. Beth is breaking down.
Phillip says he doesn't love Beth anymore and she really needs to accept it.
Beth is really losing it. Phillip tells Beth to really get it straight this
time: he isn't tempted by her anymore and he *really* wants her to leave him
alone.....and put her clothes on.

Beth shakily says she's sorry as she puts the coat back on, saying she
didn't understand and thought he broke up with Harley. Phillip says they
can't keep doing this, and Beth says they won't play this scene again. Beth
asks Phillip to go; when he doesn't immediately leave she screams at him to
leave. Phillip walks toward Beth saying he's sorry....she's shaken and
knocks the lamp over saying she's fine and she doesn't need him to feel
sorry for her. Phillip tries to reason with Beth. Beth says she needs some
fresh air and heads for the door.

Cedars: Matt rushes in. Holly points him in the right direction. Inside, Van
is saying she knew everything would be alright. Rick explains that Van was
in labor, but then it just stopped - Matt can't believe it - Rick says it's
almost like Van willed it to stop. Van tells Matt to get out if he came to
talk about his court order, because she just wants to go home. Rick says she
needs to stay overnight for observation and bed-rest - Van insists on leaving.

Jail: Annie tells Stanley to come inside the cell so they can talk about her
proposition. Stanley enters and Annie says the lawyer can't really help her.
Annie really wants to get to know Stanley better. Stanley is flattered -
Annie walks around behind him and tells him how sexy he is. Stanley backs
off again and Annie says they should change the arrangement: she has a lot
of money and if he helps her get out - she'll give him some of the money and
something else, then takes his hand and puts it on her chest.

Stanley backs off as Annie asks him to help her. Stanley says he could lose
his job and Annie laughs, saying he would never have to work again. He
leaves the cell, and Annie tells him to go home and sleep on it.

Chez Mattessa: Reva tries to explain why she went to see Annie, and Josh
tells her Annie is history. Josh wants Annie out of their lives; he realized
after talking to Josh that they have a lot to be thankful for, and not let
Annie take up their time. Reva wants to know if something is wrong with Van
- Josh says just be thankful for what they have. Reva says she will try, and
she's going to go shopping with Cassie. Reva leaves and Josh calls Cedars.

Cedars: Holly paces a bit as Rog watches her, asking if Holly wants a ride
home. Holly says she'll get a cab later, she wants to find out about Van.
Rog says he'll wait too.

Van is leaving. Rick tells her she needs to stay or sign an "against medical
advice" form to leave. Van rushes out and Matt follows her; she collapses in
the lobby as Holly and Matt go to her side.

Casa Spaulding: Harley is about to leave as Beth rushes from her bedroom.
Phillip follows as Harley asks what was wrong with Beth, and why was he in
Beth's bedroom? Phillip says they fought and he has to go find her.

Out on the street Beth is distraught.

Inside Harley asks what happened - Phillip said he was really mean and hurt
Beth. Harley agrees that Beth looked really upset when she ran out.

Fade to black with Beth running in the street and a car approaches, tires
screeching.
