GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE -- THURSDAY, JANUARY 22, 1998

Annie's wedding day...

CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING: Michelle sits on her bed, brushing her hair
as if this is a really complicated task because she's blind. She hears a
knock at the door and says, "Come in." She recognizes Rick by his
aftershave. She explains that her other senses are becoming more acute.
Rick says he misses her & gives her a big hug. He's glad to see that her
attitude has improved. She asks about the folks back home, but doesn't want
to talk about Jesse. Rick says things are looking up for Abby's trial.

LIGHTHOUSE: We see the crucial WSPR video sitting in the trash in the
darkened living area. Abby enters with Marah, Shayne & Tammy, and turns on
the lights. She's babysitting the kids while their parents attend Alan &
Annie's wedding. The kids want to turn on the lighthouse beacon.

COUNTRY CLUB: Alan looks resplendent in his tux with burgundy bow-tie &
white boutonniere. He greets guests & works the room. Cassie, Reva & Josh
enter. Reva's barely wearing a sequined black number with spaghetti straps
& a plunging neckline that threatens to slip aside at any moment, but is
probably glued to the Zimster's nips, promising great pain upon removal.
Cassie's wearing an orangey-pink one-shouldered gown that looks utterly
ridiculous, but doesn't seem likely to become displaced. Josh is wearing a
boring tux & a plain shirt with buttons instead of studs.

Cassie is surprised at the number of guests; she never thought Alan & Annie
could conjure up this many friends. Josh says they're mostly Alan's
business associates & employees. The governor & mayor are there too. This
is just the kind of audience they wanted. Josh asks if Reva has her all-
important piece of paper. Reva holds up her evening bad & swears that it
won't leave her side. As they walk away, Dinah becomes visible behind them.
She's sporting a sky-blue gown that wraps around her neck & across her
boobs, leaving her shoulders bare & a triangular opening below her chest.
Her hair is slicked back most unattractively.

Amanda & Roger are surprised to see Holly & Fletcher, who claim to be
covering the event for the Journal. Although they could have sent a
reporter, Holly says she wouldn't miss the opportunity to witness any
disaster that might occur. Holly's gown is black with a sparkly design; a
choker-type collar encircles her throat & her shoulders are bare. Amanda's
dress is more demure--solid black broken by patterned netting over her
upper chest & arms. She reminds them that they promised Blake that they
would act like a happy family. She walks away & Roger follows. Fletch
thinks the two of them deserve each other. "Almost as much as Alan &
Annie." Fletch calls it a draw.

Dinah tells her producer Debra to have the camera crew on its toes. She has
a feeling something major will happen tonight. Debra asks what's up. Dinah
doesn't know, but she intends to find out, even if it means cozying up to
the Lewises. "Almost as much as Alan & Annie." Fletch calls it a draw.

Dinah tells her producer Debra to have the camera crew on its toes. She has
a feeling something major is going to happen tonight. Debra asks what's up.
Dinah doesn't know, but she intends to find out, even if it means cozying
up to the Lewises. She surveys the scene & remembers overhearing Reva's
comment the other day about the piece of paper that will bring Annie down.
She is startled when Hart greets her. She notes that he's Cassie's escort
tonight. Hart waits for the zinger, but Dinah claims to be fresh out of
them. Hart asks if she's feeling OK. Dinah says milestones like weddings &
funerals always make her step back to look at the bigger picture. She
doesn't like what she sees very much. She realizes how awful she's been to
everyone lately. She didn't used to be that way & hopes she can change
back. Hart says anything is possible. Dinah says she'd like to take a walk
with Hart to say hello to the Lewises.

BRIDAL ROOM: Beth models her matron-of-honor gown for Lizzie, Annie &
Walter. Lizzie, wearing a frilly white dress and a wreath of flowers,
thinks it's beautiful. It's red satin with spaghetti straps and a flared
skirt. Beth asks Annie if she really looks OK. Annie says she looks drop-
dead gorgeous & when Phillip sees her, his eyes will pop out of his head &
he'll come rushing back to her. Beth says she can hope. "It takes more than
wishes, hopes & dreams to get what you want," replies Annie in an anti-
LOWHAD moment. "It takes action." Annie thinks she is living proof of that,
& tonight will erase all the bad things that ever happened to her. She's
going to start over & it will be the happiest night of her life. She picks
up Lizzie & spins her around the room in joy.

COUNTRY CLUB BAR: Buzz, Harley & Jenna enter. Buzz needs some fortification
if he's going to face an evening of Alan Spaulding. Jenna's gown has a
black bandeau top attached to a sort of violet-blue sating. She wears a
matching satin scarf over her shoulders. Harley's gown is form-fitting
sparkly-brown with spaghetti straps & a filmy taupe scarf. Phillip enters &
declares the outfit "smashing" as Harley turns to reveal her bare back. She
teases him for a kiss.

BRIDAL ROOM: Beth fiddles with her hair. She can't decide if she should
wear it up or down. She goes to her car to get some hair clips. Walter
leaves to check on the ice sculptures. Annie asks if Lizzie wants to help
her get dressed. Annie pulls on her stockings, then models her pure white
bustier & petticoat. Lizzie & Annie twirl in front of the mirror. Finally,
Annie dons her wedding gown, a lovely off-the-shoulder dress with short
sleeves, revealing a bit of cleavage. The top has lace & sequins, leading
down to a basque waist and full skirt. Annie wears a double row of pearls
in a choker around her neck. Her headpiece sticks up from her head like a
rooster's comb & appears to be made of feathers.

Lizzie thinks Annie looks like Cinderella. Annie says she used to feel like
Cinderella, waiting for her prince to come. One day, he did, but she didn't
live happily ever after because a bad princess came along & took him away.
The good princess was sad for a long time, but Prince Charming turned out
to be a toad, and she found another prince & married him. Lizzie asks what
happened to the bad princess. Annie says she just disappeared.

BALLROOM: Dinah tells Hart that she wants to apologize to Cassie for the
incident with her car, since Cassie thinks it was intentional, even though
it wasn't. Hart wishes he could believe Dinah was sincere, but the last
time he did that, he got shafted. Dinah insists that she's sincere, but
Hart says it's too little, too late, and excuses himself.

Dinah walks over to Debra, who guesses that Dinah's attempt to find out
what's going on was unsuccessful. Dinah comes up with Plan B. Debra will
have to do exactly as Dinah says.

CFIL: Rick says Ben Warren is in for a big surprise. Also, he has more
faith in Ross now; he thinks Ross will get Abby acquitted. Michelle wishes
she could be there for it. So does Rick. And someone else would be thrilled
to have her back in Springfield. Michelle wishes Rick wouldn't keep
bringing up Jesse. Rick says she can't make the hurt go away by pretending
it doesn't exist. She can have both Jesse and her independence. Michelle
disagrees & says it's hard enough for her to find the strength she needs as
it is. Jesse needs to move on, as she has.

LIGHTHOUSE: Jesse & Drew climb the stairs. Drew has lost her watch & thinks
she might have left it here yesterday. Jesse thinks maybe it's just a ruse
to seduce him. Drew accuses him of having an ego the size of Montana. She
admits her watch might be at Company, but it really is missing. Besides,
Jesse looked so lost & hurt earlier, she thought he might want someone to
talk to. She feels badly that he lost Michelle, but she feels worse that
she lost her credit cards. "Is that enough honesty for you?" They go inside
to search for the one possession Drew hasn't had to hock yet.

As they enter the living area, Jesse hears the kids. Abby comes down with
them & Jesse apologizes for barging in. Abby invites him to join their
party, but he declines. For a minute, he says, he thought she was Michelle.

BALLROOM: Alan presses the flesh & says the ceremony is about to start.
Reva asks him how Annie is. He says he hasn't seen her lately, but he's
sure she's fine. Reva thought she might be suffering from bridal nerves.
Amanda pulls Alan aside to talk about something that can't wait.

Phillip & Harley join Reva & Josh. Harley takes Reva toward the punch
fountain & asks how things went in Cincinnati. Reva says they went just
fine. She dug up a whole cellarful of dirt, as Harley will soon see.

Hart fills Cassie in on his conversation with Dinah. Cassie trust Dinah
about as far as she can throw her. Hart trusts her even less, but he told
her so. Cassie doesn't think words register with Dinah. Hart doesn't think
they'll have much trouble with Dinah from now on, and touches noses with
Cassie.

Dinah sends Debra towards Hart & Cassie. The camera crew follows her. Debra
introduces herself to Josh. She says they're doing a story for the station
& would love to include some of Springfield's more prominent citizens. She
asks them to pose for the camera & suggests that Reva & Cassie put down
their evening bags & pick up a couple of glasses of champagne. Dinah smiles
as they set their bags down on a table behind them.

Debra interviews the Lewises about their relationship with Annie. She's
surprised they would attend. Reva says life is unpredictable. "Never say
never," adds Josh, before excusing himself.

Phillip & Harley meet up with Jenna & Buzz. Buzz asks about Phillip &
Harley's house. Phillip says it's great; he loves it as much as Harley
does. Buzz guesses that means Phillip & Harley are still planning to live
together [stuttering "live together" as if he can't really say it about his
daughter]. Phillip promises to be very good to Harley. Jenna excuses
herself to the ladies room & Harley joins her. They guys wonder why the
women always go in pairs. "To talk about you, of course," teases Jenna.
Phillip begs them to be kind. They pass Beth on their way out & nod briefly
at her. Beth gives Harley a dismissive look.

In the hallway, Harley laughs about the look Beth gave her. "I must look
good, or she would have stopped to chat," she smiles. Jenna warns Harley
not to push her luck, & to wear her current dress for the rest of her life.

Back in the ballroom, Holly hopes the evening doesn't go on too long. She'd
like to get home to Meg. Speaking of Meg, says Fletch, he spoke to the
director of that school earlier. Holly says this is not the time to discuss
that. Fletch asks why Holly never wants to talk about the school in
Toronto. Holly says this is certainly not the time. Fletch wonders if he'll
have to make an appointment to talk about it. Holly doesn't appreciate his
sarcasm. Fletch says he was just being realistic. "You want realistic?"
asks Holly. She walks directly over to Roger.

BAR: Amanda orders some champagne for herself & Alan. She says she has a
present for Alan. She points out that she's given him pretty free rein at
with regard to Annie & her perfume fantasy. Alan says it's not a fantasy &
could be quite lucrative. Amanda pish-poshes that. But she's willing to let
Annie continue to play with her fragrances if she can have complete control
of Spaulding West. Alan thinks this is ridiculous. It's worth hundreds of
millions of dollars. "Which is why I'm not asking for Spaulding New
Jersey," quips Amanda. Besides, if she doesn't get what she wants, she'll
pull the plug on Simply Annie. The ball's now in Alan's court.

BRIDAL ROOM: Annie thanks Lizzie for her help & hopes she can help Lizzie
on her wedding day. Lizzie thinks it's a lot of fun, like playing dolls for
real. Annie thinks Lizzie looks like a living doll herself. She claims to
love Lizzie with all her heart.

Walter returns, worried because the ice sculptures are sweating. He stops
talking when he sees Annie. He thinks she looks absolutely fabulous.
Lizzie, too. He says Lizzie's flowers are ready & has her practice her walk
down the aisle. They leave the room & walk down the hall as Annie watches
from the door. She starts to go back inside, but then she sees Josh finish
a chat with a business associate, so she walks towards him from behind.

Annie comments that she's always liked Josh in that tux. He turns around,
not thrilled to hear her voice. She asks why he's giving her that look;
he's seen her in a wedding dress before. But this time, she thinks the
groom will stick by her. Josh wishes her the best. Annie says Alan loves
her & will never leave her for another woman. And he'll give her everything
she wants & more. She asks if Josh would like to kiss the bride, but he
declines. She figures he just had to see her; couldn't stay away. Josh says
he didn't even know she was there. Annie says there will always be a
dangerous part of Josh that wants her. "We both know that." She jumps at
him, trying to plant a kiss on his lips. Josh jumps back at the touch of
her lips & grabs her by the elbows, holding her away from him.

Josh pushes Annie into the bridal room as she whines that he's wrinkling
her dress. He complains that she never stops. She points out that he's got
some lipstick on him. He grabs a tissue to wipe it off. He doesn't want to
hear another word from her. "Oh, you want to kiss some more?" she asks.
Josh doesn't get it. No matter how many people try to help Annie, she just
swats them away with her claws. Annie says it's because she knows better.
She's had too much stolen from her already. Josh is tired of seeing Annie
play the victim. "Not anymore," she says. She invites him to stick around.
He says he has to go back to his friends. And he hopes she gets what's
coming to are. Annie is sure she will, and so will he. "As long as we're
all happy," replies Josh before walking out the door. Annie slams it behind
him & then starts crying & raging. She tries to calm herself.

CLIF: Michelle apologizes to Rick for yelling at him. She'd rather stay
away from the "J" word. She mentions that he called her, but she doesn't
think he knows where she is. Just to be safe, she changed her phone number.
Now, she wants to know about the evidence that could help Abby. Rick
explains that Roy threatened Abby right before she shot him & they think
Ben Warren has the WSPR tape that might have captured it. Michelle blurts
out that she has the tape, or rather, Jesse has it. She explains how they
got the tape and that they took it because they were afraid it would hurt
Abby. It's under a floorboard in the lighthouse. Rick gives Michelle a big
kiss & says he has to run back to Springfield to get the tape. As he
leaves, she says, "Tell Jesse..." but Rick is already out the door. "...I
wish I was with him," she finishes, but Rick doesn't hear.

LIGHTHOUSE: Drew looks around for her watch while Shayne reclines on the
bed & complains that he's bored. Drew says boring people get bored. Shayne
wants to go outside. Drew suggests that he take the trash out. He worries
that he might spill something on the way down. Drew picks up the wastepaper
basket & carries it downstairs with Shayne alongside her.

Abby tells Marah & Tammy to get their coats. She joins Jesse by the window
& asks how he is. Not great, he says, but thanks for asking. He figures
it's pointless to ask her where Michelle is. Abby says she really doesn't
know where Michelle is. Jesse asks Abby, if she should see Michelle, to
tell her that he wishes her luck, and he's going to take her advice to move
on. OK, says Abby. She calls for the girls to leave with her & they say
goodbye to Jesse & head downstairs.

Drew returns with the empty trash can. "The garbage is out now. Should I
take myself out too?" Jesse smiles weakly at her.

BALLROOM: Roger asks if it's true that she & Fletcher are moving to
Toronto. Holly expresses her exasperation with Fletcher. She has no desire
to move & thinks there are plenty of good schools right in Springfield. Rog
thinks Fletch is being unreasonable. Holly says she didn't ask for his
opinion. Rog asks why she confided in him, then. Since she has no good
answer, she excuses herself & walks away.

While Debra asks Reva & Cassie about their dresses, a crew member from WSPR
slips a paper out of Reva's bag. Debra thanks them for their time. Reva
turns around to get her bag & a scared look crosses her face. She worries
that she might have just done something very stupid.

In a little room off to the side [I think it's the same room where Bridget
revealed Peter's paternity to Dylan], Dinah's guy hands her the paper he
spirited from Reva's bag. He's a little worried about getting in trouble,
but Dinah says if anything happens, she'll take full responsibility. She
scans the paper as the guy leaves, then folds it thoughtfully.

BRIDAL ROOM: Beth sits at the mirror, looking at her hair. She picks up
Annie's bouquet & stares at it. Annie comes in & says she'll make sure Beth
catches it. Beth says Annie is supposed to turn her back when she throws
it. Annie says she'll never turn her back on "those people." She really
hopes Beth & Phillip get back together, and even if they don't, she hopes
the bouquet will bring Beth the happiness that she's so desperately tried
to find. Beth thanks Annie. Even though Annie has some unconventional
ideas, she's been a good friend to Beth. Beth gives Annie a hug.

BAR: As they enter, Harley suggests that they shouldn't stay very long
because the ceremony will probably be starting any minute. "Five minutes,
to be exact," says Alan, as he & Amanda leave. Phillip notices that Alan
looks less than thrilled. Harley doesn't get it either; just yesterday Alan
was so happy to be getting married, with Phillip as his best man. Phillip
reaches behind the bar & pours them drinks as he comments that there's no
figuring Alan out. Sometimes he sees something in Alan that he could love;
he just wishes he saw it more often. Harley thinks Phillip is very sweet,
which is one of the reasons she loves him. She wouldn't mind leaving the
party early, because she'd love to go home with Phillip.

"Speaking of home," says Phillip, reaching into his pocket for some keys,
"Here's your set." Harley is very excited to learn that Phillip has already
gotten the house. He says it's not furnished. Harley doesn't care; she can
furnish it herself. They'll need a bed for starters. Phillip says it was
delivered today. Harley is thrilled & tells Phillip how amazing he is. "You
thought of everything," she says. "I haven't even started," replies
Phillip. Harley thinks this sounds dangerous. "Here's to living
dangerously," toasts Phillip as he kisses her. They leave the bar as Holly
enters, trailed by Fletcher.

As he joins her at the bar, Holly says she wanted to have a drink alone.
Fletcher accuses her of being reluctant to move to Toronto because of
Roger. Holly says getting away from Rog would be one good reason to move.
Fletch thinks he might follow them. And he doesn't think Holly would mind.
Holly thinks that was uncalled for. Fletch thinks it was long overdue. She
wishes Fletch would leave her alone. He says he's left her alone far too
long & it's time for them to face some things. Holly repeats that this
isn't the time or place. Fletch says it is.

BALLROOM: Roger asks Amanda what's going with Alan. She says it's just
business & asks how he feels about sun & surf. He asks how she'd like a
week in Barbados. "Make it California, for good," she replies. Rog asks for
clarification. Amanda says they will soon be in control of Spaulding West &
the money will be rolling in. Her earring falls off, but she ignores it, so
perhaps it wasn't scripted. Rog is annoyed that Amanda is making decisions
for him. She thought he'd be thrilled. "Well I'm not," he replies.

Buzz & Jenna make their way through the room. "We could get married here,"
says Buzz, looking around. Jenna asks if he's proposing again. He guesses
so. She gives him a big hug.

Reva sees Josh & asks where he's been. He says he ran into an old friend,
Charlie Daniels. As they walk, he tells her that her nose is shiny. She
opens her bag to get her powder & discovers that her paper is gone.

LIGHTHOUSE: Jesse says Drew is welcome to hang out for awhile, and he likes
being her friend, but it will never be more than that. Drew tells him to
check his ego. She just wants to get something to eat or see a movie. Jesse
thought she was broke. She says she is, which is why Jesse will have to pay
for both of them. He says OK. Drew spots her watch on the floor & grabs her
jacket. She heads out the door, promising to meet him in Company in an
hour. Rick rushes past her as she leaves.

Frantic, Rick asks Jesse about the tape. Jesse says it's gone. He got rid
of it for Abby so it couldn't be used against her. Rick's mouth hangs open.

TEMPORARY LEWIS ABODE: Shayne, Tammy & Marah skip into his room. Shayne is
holding the WSPR tape. He asks Abby if he can tape a cartoon show. She says
yes, but he has to do his homework before watching it. She asks if he can
work the VCR. He says a baby could do it, and slips the tape into the VCR.

BALLROOM: Reva tells Cassie that she did indeed do something stupid
earlier. When she put her bag down to do the interview, someone stole the
document on Annie. Cassie says no one else knows about it. "As far as we
know," replies Reva. Cassie tells her not to worry; they'll find it. Dinah
watches from the sidelines.

Cassie rushes over to Hart & tells him that Reva lost an important letter.
She asks him to help her find it. Meanwhile Reva tells Josh that the
document is missing & maybe it fell out of her purse. Josh starts looking.

ANTEROOM: Beth pats Lizzie as she stands in line with two other flower
girls [who are these children & why are they in Annie's wedding, I'd like
to know]. Walter asks Annie if she's ready. "As I'll ever be," she answers.

BALLROOM: Alan stands with Phillip & apologizes for snapping at him
earlier. Phillip understands the pre-wedding jitters. Alan's glad that
Phillip is standing beside him.

Cassie sees Dinah light a piece of paper on fire & runs over. She demands
that Dinah give her the document. Dinah says to forget it. She knows what
Cassie is up to. Behind them, 8 adolescent girls in white dresses walk by
carrying what looks like a giant canopy. [What's the deal with that?]
Cassie makes a grab for the document, but Dinah keeps it away from her &
drops the flaming paper to the floor as the screen fades to black.
